One section of the community that used to be counted in the unemployment but is no longer (thanks to the former Liberal government) is people on disability pensions. I'd say that would've counted for a decent chunk of the decrease in the unemployment rate during their time in government
Hi Daveg - I'm looking at the ABS website at the moment and I can find no reference to when this change was made. Could you point me in the right direction?
Dikkii, I have to admit I'm only going off the back of what I'd heard recently on ABC Radio National. Looks like some further digging is perhaps in order...
A very good point really. The public sector makes up at least 30% of all economic activity. If they decided to make the working day 6-6.5 hours and employ more people, then the private sector will probably follow to some degree.
